According to site description it basically works like any other search engine but, it gives most (80%) if it’s advertising revenue to a rainforest protection program run by the WWF. Ecosia users can earn money for the program save about two square meters of rainforest with every search they do according to the information provided on the Ecosia web pages. Maybe using this search engine will not save the whole world, but he green search model has the potential to become a source of funding for environmental projects. But there is a competition on that field. A number of organisations are attempting to convert sponsored links into revenue for environmental projects.
