Last weekend’s news in the tech world was flooded with a “story” about how a “chatbot” passed the Turing Test for “the first time”: Many media outlets were reporting that a computer programme pretending to be a 13-year-old boy from the Ukraine passed the Turing test for artificial intelligence on Saturday. The problem is that it seems that almost everything about the story is bogus. This is not the first time a chatbot has been said to have passed a Turing test. Basically, any reporter should view extraordinary claims with extreme caution, but again that’s not what happened at all.
To get the right picture I recommend to read No, A Computer Did Not Just Pass The Turing Test and No, A ‘Supercomputer’ Did NOT Pass The Turing Test For The First Time And Everyone Should Know Better articles.
