I just happened to find article How a handful of geeks defied the USSR » OWNI, News, Augmented published few years ago. Interesting story that brings back memories as I remember following some messages (Usenet and IRC) sent from some University in USSR while watching news coverage what is happening around it. I was following how things changes on the next country (I was following this at Helsinki University of Technology in my home country Finland).
