I also purchsased this TV in Germany, about 10 years ago. Seems like a short time, and it cost nearly $1000 then.
I figured the problem was with the switch, as I pulled it apart and saw that the contacts are burnt as well.
Thanks for the feedback on the Capacitor and the Diode; mind sharing the cost?
I hope I don't have the 'looses color' issue, bit I'd like to know if it would be worth fixing or tossing if anything else happens.
It looks like this is a pretty common problem- I'm going to see if Sony has a comments section and refer them here.
