Hi Kirk.
That is a relay.
It disconnects something, probably the speakers when a fault like presence of DC at the output terminals to prevent the speakers from frying.
The clicking after turn on indicates all is fine and connects the speakers to the amplifier outputs. If does not, is because the amplifier is bad and the relay driving circuitry senses the problem.
Chances are that relay is perfectly working and something else is kaput.
