TL494 Question

Dear All,
I'm trying to build a switching power supply using the TL494, in a single-ended
configuration (with pin 8/11 connected, pin 9/10 connected). However, the original 12V
gate signal output drops to about only 3V when I try to connect the output pin (pin 8) of
the TL494 to a MOSFET. What should I do? What is happening?
