What is the fog in theatrical production?
Carbon dioxide and dry ice

Liquid carbon dioxide (CO2), stored in compressed cylinders, is used in conjunction with theatrical fog machines to produce "low-lying" fog effects. When liquid CO2 is used to chill theatrical fog, the result is a thick fog that stays within a few feet of the ground.

All the time. Fog/haze seems to affect people with extreme asthma the most. If they ask to not run it, I comply.

Inform them that it’s water based, that it’s glycol (sugar) and water, harmless and approved by the FDA. It’s a difficult conversation to tell someone “it’s all in your head,” but that’s really what needs to happen. I typically send this white paper from the Actors Equity to schools and such when they ask and want to cover their ass.

As far as how the haze hangs, this will change with humidity, temperature, and HVAC. No two venues will be the same.

Fog machine pushes fluids through a heat exchanger/block then pumps it out, takes longer to heat up, great for outdoor crowds, way denser smoke.

Oil base hazers use a different fluid which doesn't need to be heated, it just compresses the fluid from the get go. Great for rooms and lighting and when there arr screens or projected visualdls, way more subtle and expensive.

Fazers act like hazers, use the same fluid and act the same way with heating process but instead of the big Woooosh, you can control Tested burst output
