Katuvalojen väri ei ole Alipirjelälle vain fiiliskysymys. Hänestä valkeat katuvalot häikäisevät märältä asfaltilla enemmän kuin oranssit ja ovat liikenneturvallisuusriski.

”Mielestäni näkyvyys on huonompi.”

Valon värillä on tutkitusti vaikutuksia ihmiseen.

Kirkas valo illalla voi lykätä nukahtamista, ja valkoisen valon piristävä vaikutus on yleensä vahvempi kuin oranssin, kertoo Turun yliopiston psykologian erikoistutkija Nils Sandman.

Valkoiset katuvalot voivat hänen arvionsa mukaan vaikuttaa nukahtamiseen, jos niiden valossa on viettänyt aikaa juuri ennen kuin olisi tarkoitus mennä nukkumaan.

”Todennäköisesti suurempi vaikutus nukkumiseen on kuitenkin illalla kotona vallitsevalla valaistuksella.”

Valon väri vaikuttaa myös näkemiseen.

Valkoisen valon katselemisen jälkeen silmällä kestää kauemmin tottua pimeään kuin oranssin valon katselemisen jälkeen. Sinertävän valkoinen kova valo myös häikäisee enemmän kuin oranssi, kertoo Tampereen yliopiston emeritusprofessori Hannu Uusitalo.

Sinertävää kovaa valoa on Uusitalon mukaan etenkin ”vanhanaikaisissa” valkoisissa ledeissä.

Oranssia valoa luovissa suurpainenatriumlampuissakin on ongelmansa. Niiden valossa on vaikea erottaa värejä.

”Käytännössä miltei kaikki näyttää kellertävän oranssilta”, sanoo Uusitalo.

		<description><![CDATA[The problem with 95% of “UV” fixtures out there now is they aren’t true “black lights.” They all are in the 385-405nm ultra violet range but they emit a fair amount of visible light. Will they make things fluoresce? Yes. But you will have very deep visible violet light as well. You need to find something that is 365nm. If it doesn’t say anywhere on the spec sheet the emitted wavelength then I can assure you it’s not 365. 

Personally I still have my nocturne and wildfire units in inventory and are using them when the need arises. Wildfire is still in the game and they have LED units available. I’ve never had a shootout with a 400 though.

I’ve been meaning to check out the Antari DarkFX 2000. IP65. 35° beam angle. DMX. Looks promising.


The one thing to be careful with is some cheaper LED fixtures may not produce true UV and may have a bit of visible light to the output. 

The Elation Prisma series of fixtures are pretty nice. 

Otherwise nothing beats a Wildfire. They’re still around.

If you buy an LED screw bulb, already the default on many store shelves, it will likely be a piece of junk presenting a low color spectrum and inferior longevity. The mix of colored diodes in the bulb will superficially appear to give out a white of a certain warmth or coolness, but the poor color index is revealed in the color of everything it lands on. With restrictions on incandescents kicking in, get ready for an indoor world that looks bleak, sickly and gray unless you&#039;re prepared to fork out for expensive high-CRI bulbs. Speaking of which, manufacturers are happy to game (or lie) about Color Rendering Index: the 90+ CRI bulb you bought on Amazon is likely as bad if not worse than the honest crap you can get at the store.

An interesting wrinkle for those with sleep quality problems: the blue diodes in LED light bulbs may be keeping you alert even when its hidden in the orange glow of a &quot;warm&quot; bulb.
