The highway is now a continuous charger. The eRoadArlanda project in Sweden embedded a conductive rail into a public road near Stockholm, allowing specially equipped electric trucks to draw power via a movable arm that detects and connects to the rail automatically. The rail is segmented and only energizes when a vehicle passes over, making it safe for pedestrians and cyclists. At speeds up to 90 km/h, trucks can charge while hauling heavy loads, effectively eliminating the need for giant batteries on long-haul routes. Sweden aims to electrify its busiest highways by 2030, with similar wireless and conductive projects in Germany and the UK. The concept turns road infrastructure into a shared energy asset, reducing battery weight and cost while keeping freight moving with zero tailpipe emissions. The first commercial stretch is now delivering real-world data: it works in rain, snow, and heavy traffic. A road that fuels you as you drive is no longer a sci-fi idea; it's a Swedish export. #electricroad #swedeninnovation #evtruckcharging #cleanfreight #infrastructure

Electric vehicles offer plenty of benefits. There’s the instant torque, savings on fuel — and, of course, they’re much kinder to mother Earth.

Yet compared to vehicles powered by internal combustion engines, EVs come with a key disadvantage drivers hope they never have to experience: they’re much more dangerous when they catch on fire. (An important caveat, though, is that they catch on fire less often than gas-powered vehicles.)

When they go up in flames, the lithium-ion batteries in EVs are much more difficult for emergency responders to extinguish than standard combustion engines. That’s thanks to a phenomenon known as thermal runaway, basically an accelerating chain reaction fueled by the chemicals found in their cells.

As EVs have exploded in popularity over the last decade, fire fighters have tried all sorts of tactics to control thermal runaway in lithium-ion cells, from hulking submersion containers to chemical mixtures in water to massive wet blankets.

Yet one exhaustive study finds that, for all the experimenting, there really is no better way to extinguish a burning EV than the tried-and-true firehose.

Basically, once thermal runaway kicks off — usually the result of overheating, punctures, or overcharging — water becomes a means to control flames, but is powerless to stop the combustion process itself.

As the report authors write, “applying copious amounts of water to the battery enclosure is wasteful and will not stop thermal runaway.”

And though water is the best tool we know of at this point, its use may inadvertently cause un-ignited cells to erupt. “Likewise, introducing water into an uninvolved battery may increase (re-)ignition risk,” the report explains.

Unfortunately, that means incidents like the 2024 Tesla Semi fire — where firefighters closed a freeway for 15 hours, using 50,000 gallons of water to quell the horrific blaze — are really a best case scenario, at least for the foreseeable future.

Sähköautojen ja hybridien tehopuolijohteiden markkina kasvaa voimakkaasti lähivuosina. Yole Group ennustaa xEV-ajoneuvojen tehosirujen markkinan yltävän 14,5 miljardiin dollariin vuonna 2031. Kasvua kertyy vuosina 2025–2031 keskimäärin 14 prosenttia vuodessa.

Kasvua ajaa ennen kaikkea ajoneuvojen sähköistyminen. Yolen mukaan sähköistetyt autot muodostavat vuonna 2031 jo noin 70 prosenttia maailman kevyiden ajoneuvojen tuotannosta. Täyssähköautoja valmistetaan tuolloin noin 33 miljoonaa kappaletta vuodessa.

Samalla sähköautojen sähköjärjestelmät siirtyvät 400 voltista 800 ja jopa 1000 voltin jännitteisiin. Tämä kasvattaa erityisesti korkeampien jänniteluokkien tehopuolijohteiden kysyntää. Vähintään 1,2 kilovoltin komponenttien markkinan Yole arvioi kasvavan 27,4 prosenttia vuodessa.

https://www.facebook.com/share/p/1GDEsMuvjd/

The fire marshal sees this one every winter, and the owners never see it coming.

UL and NFPA have flagged extension cord use as one of the leading causes of EV charging fires in single-family homes. The problem is duty cycle. A vacuum or space heater runs in short bursts. A Level 1 EV charger draws near-maximum current for the entire overnight charge, which turns a slightly undersized cord into a slow-burning fuse.

The math is brutal. A 16-gauge cord at 12 amps for 10 hours dissipates around 60 to 90 watts as heat along its length. Coil that cord on a garage floor or run it under a rug and the heat has nowhere to go. Surface temperatures can climb past 175°F before the plug melts.

Plug the EV directly into a dedicated 15 or 20 amp wall outlet. If the cord won't reach, install a closer outlet or upgrade to a Level 2 240V circuit. Never use a power strip, never use an indoor extension cord, and never coil any cord while charging.

Even a heavy 12-gauge outdoor cord is a temporary fix, not a solution. The National Electrical Code treats a charging extension cord as a code violation in most installations. [JT256]

Gotta have at least a 12 ga wire and preferably a 10 ga

Tekoäly optimoi sähköauton pikalatauksen ja pidensi akun käyttöikää 23 prosenttia
https://etn.fi/index.php/13-news/18910-tekoaely-optimoi-saehkoeauton-pikalatauksen-ja-pidensi-akun-kaeyttoeikaeae-23-prosenttia

Keskeinen ongelma nopeassa latauksessa on ns. litiumplatoituminen.
