Option a) "hey, you took a step in the right direction, cool. Here's the next step you can take"
Option b) "you didn't do things perfect! You're allied to the enemy!"

Guess which one is more useful

OOXML is open and standardized by ECMA International and ISO. Refuted.

odf is also recognized by ISO, so what's the point?

The EU doesn't really want open source, it wants independence from US companies.

if they keep OOXML as the standard, it still maintains MS in a strength position by letting them keep control of the format, that they could update and make Euro Office incompatible with the new standard

So, LibreOffice supports both ODF and OOXML (both strict and transitional specs). I imagine the EuroOffice has better support for OOXML, but unless EuroOffice fails to support ODF, there is a path to eventually having all Euro files be ODF. Its just a matter of planning.

https://www.facebook.com/share/p/17hMNLR6gb/

"Europe's first open-source office suite." That's how Euro-Office markets itself.

LibreOffice isn't buying it.

The Document Foundation, the people behind LibreOffice, publicly called out Euro-Office for pushing Microsoft's OOXML format while waving the open-source flag.

Their words: Euro-Office is acting as a "de facto ally" of Microsoft.

The core issue is that OOXML, Microsoft's document format, has a history of undermining true open standards. An office suite that makes OOXML its priority isn't really fighting for open source. It's reinforcing the very ecosystem it claims to stand against. That's what LibreOffice thinks.

LibreOffice has spent years building a genuinely open alternative. Watching a newcomer claim that title while playing by Microsoft's rules is, apparently, too much to ignore for them.

Right now, every byte you store on AWS or Azure is subject to US jurisdiction — regardless of where the server sits.

That's not a theoretical risk. The CLOUD Act gives US authorities legal access to your data, even in EU data centers operated by American companies.

Hostman is different:
— EU-only infrastructure (Germany & Netherlands)
— No US parent company, no foreign jurisdiction exposure
— 100% GDPR-compliant by design

Oh, and it costs 60% less than what you're paying now.

Get a free cost & compliance analysis — no commitment.

EU halua mikrosirujen tuotannon Eurooppaan. Sirujen suunnittelussa Eurooppa on jo vahvoilla. Harvinaista osaamista on erityisesti Oulussa Nokian takia.
