    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=32oJQASh1kE

Today I review the best microphone ever made, or at the very least one of them, the Neumann U67 Reissue. This is a multi pattern tube condenser microphone that sounds amazing. It offers a fairly controlled low end, neutral-ish mid section and a smooth top end that avoids sibilance and harshness. One main down side is the price and the Max SPL only hitting 124dB.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Oj684WsMZ_c

Today I review my new favorite broadcast condenser microphone, the Earthwork Ethos. This is an expensive mic, but it offers a powerful low-end without being muddy, a clear and detailed mid section without sound scooped, and an extended and open top-end without sounding over-boosted or artificial. It also rejects plosives extremely well handles handling noise like a champ. It’s expensive, but hacking shoot am I impressed by this thing.

A New Industry Standard Podcast Mic? – Earthworks Icon Pro
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wg5jyFZIOfE

Today, we are going to do something we have never done before: review a podcast mic! We will be testing out the Earthworks Pro XLR Streaming Microphone in today’s video, and comparing it to the Shure SM7, which we typically use on a daily basis.

If you know Earthworks, you likely know that they are famous for a mic called the M30. The reason why that is widely known is because the M30 is the industry standard for measurement mics. They sell them as a pair, and they get used all the time for measurement. We actually own a pair ourselves! Earthworks if very well known for making very flat response, very accurate microphones.

We have never used a podcast microphone before, so we are going to pit this mic against the other industry standard: the Shure SM7. We will put a pop screen on both, and there will be no EQ or compression added to either mic during recording or in post.

Today I review the USB Version of the SM7b, kind of…the MV7. This is a USB microphone which also has an XLR output which can be run simultaneously. It has basic DSP processing as well. If you’re looking for a USB Dynamic mic and $250 is your budget, I think it can sound great, and has some backup functionality via the XLR output if you run it to an external recorder. Also, the microphone is made in China.

Today I review the updated mic from Neat, the King Bee II. This is a revision to the extremely popular budget mic the King Bee. This offers a more tame top end in a less ostentatious design. You get a lot of the same pros but now suffer from a little bit of issue with the shockmount. All around if you want a beefy low end and detailed top end, this mic might be right for you.

Today I review one of the best microphones ever made, the Neumann U87 Ai. This is a 3 polar pattern large diaphragm mic that is very expensive. It has a controlled low-end, a forward mid section, and a smooth but detailed top end. It is very unforgiving in terms of tone as it captures what you put in front of it and doesn’t do much to help you out. I also compare it to the Neewer NW700, AT2020, Neat King Bee, sE X1, Rode NT1, Shure SM7b, RE20, CAD E100s, KSM32, TLM102, Mojave MA201 FET, OC818, KSM44a, C414 XLII, and TLM103.

Today I review the Telefunken M81, a universal handheld dynamic microphone. This is not a cheap microphone, but it sounds excellent. You’re getting a microphone that has a clean sound with excellent clarity, with a slightly recessed mid section, and rolled back low frequency section to help curb handling noise / plosives / proximity effect. If you’re looking for a live microphone for vocals, guitar, or wind instruments, then this is an excellent option.

Still way better quality than 99% of gaming headsets that cost 100$+

Probably because gaming headsets also include headphones. That’s where most of the cost goes, I’d imagine.
not really. “gaming” headphones are inherently overpriced. With the money you used to buy a “gaming” headset, you can buy a “non-gaming” headset that sounds better and a cheap mic.
Headset mics are forced to have really small capsules. You try buying a cheap condenser and turning it into a mic small enough to fit on a pair of headphones like a regular headset. It simply can’t be done. The size cap is also a quality cap.

The shock mount alone is nice for the price and u get a free mic

I bought very similar mic (Maono AU-A03) only for its kit to use with another mic. And I would say Maono is not that bad for Zoom/Skype calls, much better than internal mics of laptops and webcams.

I’ve been waiting for this! Re-reviews of budget mics can really show where the market has gone over the years and how affordable getting into audio is getting. I’m also interested in seeing re-reviews of popular mics like the SM7B regardless of price, for similar reasons.

    “Neewer: It Technically Functions”
    Now that’s a slogan!
Neewer. Legally we can call it a microphone! lol
Neewer: sing into the cable and it’ll still pick up your voice.

I think it sounds pretty alright. Has a lot of issues, but the audio you can get from it compared to from a laptop or headset mic is miles ahead. I used one on my podcast for a while and it worked, never any issues with the mic itself, but like it was said in the review the resonance and high frequency distortion are always going to be there.

I was so confused until I heard you say “Re-review series”. Of course!
Honestly a lot of people trash on this mic especially since it’s so dirt cheap, but it’s better than nothing!
EDIT: oh my god that box throw are you okay

Hey, thanks for the review! Especially for the overall thoughts, because few people can’t handle things in place nowadays. Everyone wants the maximum, right away. For me, as a professional broadcaster and producer, this one is a garbage, but for many others this thing could be a starting point. Not a good starting point, but a starting point. : ) Or it could be a device for a hobby. I really hate when somebody on YouTube can’t think about beginners. I mean, when someone tells you here that “the Galaxy 21 Ultra is the best phone”, never added to whom. Then, when the average person buys it and starts shooting in the torn neighborhood, without friends and creativity, can’t do a miracle with it. So, you can buy the SM7B (I also have two of them) or a Neumann, but a mic is still just a device. If you’re inexperienced, or maybe untalented, there’s no point in spending money. Try yourself with $ 25stuff and if it makes sense, move up!

The Mackie was great for its price compared to this. The Neat Work Bee was probably my favorite at $100. It all depends on the voice/instrument. I’d rather get the XM8500 for $20.

A very good review. As always. I have a few of the cheaper microphones. I got a lot of them to experiment with them. In the UK on Amazon sales. I have managed to get them for £10.00 or less. It is worth it to me. As I get the accessories and the microphone is free. The body can be helped with lining the inside with heavy rubber or the sound deadening tar based stuff they use in doors on cars. I have noticed the circuit boards are getting smaller and smaller in the ones I have purchased. Plus less and less populated on the circuit boards. If you just want to play about they are fun to experiment with. I swap parts around from different microphones and sometimes I am lucky and end up with a decent one. I like the shape of a lot of them. Eg I converted a Behringer 8500 over to a bm800 just for something to do do. Bark does the same on his channel. Anyway love your channels. You do a great job. I have learned a lot watching your vids. Take care and live long and prosper. From an old guy in England.

Started out with the Tonor BM700 coupled with a super budget Behringer UM2, still use the mic stand/shockmount and mic as my workbench/desk mic for work but went to the Samson Q2U as my go to everyday USB/XLR mic. Right now, my set up and requirements are well met by the Q2U until I can move to the RodeCaster and Podcaster mic

Scored a BM-800 a long time ago for $4. Thru my creative sound blaster k3+ interface, it sounded way better than I expected. Took getting a different mic as a review unit to finally get me to move away from the BM-800 lol.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=brx20JvaLo8

Amazon sells many cheap USB mics which can make it hard to find the best USB mic for your budget. Most of these USB microphones are from cheap brands, except for the Razer Seiren Mini. Coming from razer, it’s surprizing that it isn’t overpriced, and on top of that, it’s said to be one of the best budget microphones so I was really excited to test it out.

The benefit of going for this system is you have the flexibility to upgrade components down the track. Today I review another budget usb microphone. This is a USB & XLR dynamic mic similar to the Shure MV7, Samson Q2u and Audio Technica ATR2100. The sound of this is slightly V-shaped so if you want a bit of a recessed midsection with powerful low mids and crisp top, this will do that. This is limited to 16-bit 48khz in terms of conversion and the inbuilt preamp is quiet.

    =============================
Sennheiser 416 is the best overall.

Sennheiser MKE 600 is the best overall budget option if you don’t need a super sensitive microphone.

Azden SGM microphones are my favorite $500 options.

The Rode NTG5 is great if you need a very sensitive microphone

Rode NT and Oktava microphones are amazing and affordable if you don’t care as much about sensitivity.

Deity microphones offer build quality as good as a $1000 microphone with a price tag of under $400 and are very sensitive with decent rejection.

The Rode NTG3 is great if you have some cash and want nice low frequency (bass) warmth.

The Rode NTG4+ and NTG8 are a hard pass for me.

review the new budget mic from Behringer, the BX2020. Is it trying to copy the Audio Technica AT2020? We may never know. This is an affordable mic that has a quite sibilant top end and roll off in the low end. It also doesn’t do great at ambient noise rejection or plosive rejection. If you’re looking for a USB Dynamic mic and $250 is your budget, I think it can sound great, and has some backup functionality via the XLR output if you run it to an external recorder. Also, the microphone is made in China.

Today I review another budget mic from Behringer which looks quite a lot like the Rode NT1a. This costs $120, has a great set of accessories, and offers a very modern sound meaning a weighty low end and a dominant top end which gives it a slight v-shape. The top end does come across a bit harsh, but for the price it’s not horrible.

This setup will work whether you want to record in a studio on your own, or if you have remote guests and co-hosts in different locations. I break everything down here to help even the beginner podcaster. A remote co-host and/or guest setup to record in two locations can be a challenge, but not with this gear.
