Videos about big audio systems

Here are some interesting videos related to PA and sound reinforcement systems. Wikipedia defines that a public address system (PA system) is an electronic system comprising microphones, amplifiers, loudspeakers, and related equipment. It increases the apparent volume (loudness) of a human voice, musical instrument, or other acoustic sound source or recorded sound or music. The term, sound reinforcement system generally means a PA system specifically for live music or performance. A sound reinforcement system for a rock concert or other large event in a stadium may be very complex.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=th1VqW2dD4w

‘Beyond Line Array’ shows how MLA departs from traditional line array thinking to achieve unprecedented coverage consistency. With software control of up to 144 individual cells in an array, MLA delivers a phase-coherent wavefront at the listener’s ears — not immediately in front of the array itself, as advocated by early line array proponents.

MLA is a revolutionary touring system that uses intelligent software to control the individual DSP and onboard amplifiers of up to 144 array cells to deliver:

Stage Left Audio – Physics 1 (Power Alley)
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xhJBSXTk0-k

A brief look at the physics issue of “power alley” in sound systems.

The bass audio from sound systems become very prominent when the subs (loudspeakers) are placed too far to the left and right. The distance between the FOH speaker and the bass frequency they are producing, will cause a “power alley” of bass frequencies to occur down the middle of the guest area directly in front of the stage.

Please Note: The Power Alley is most prominent in outdoor events (due to no reflective surfaces). Power alley can exist for indoor shows, but may not be as prominent due to reflective surfaces causing interference.

Stage Left Audio – Stereo or Mono for FOH
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oOdjIHFBCXk

This video (slide-show) covers a sensitive topic among many people in the audio field. This video is about the use of stereo vs. mono for front of house (FOH) sound. The video is NOT trying to convince anyone to mix in mono, but rather shed more light on the use of mono in a sound system.

A lot of people run stereo FOH mixes. Both stereo and mono have their place in sound. However, there seems to be a misunderstanding of what mono is in live sound.
