CES is the world’s gathering place for all those who thrive on the business of consumer technologies. It has served as the proving ground for innovators and breakthrough technologies for 50 year.
This year CES 2019 is held January 8-11 at Las Vegas. So the show starts tomorrow. And some press events by some companies seem to start already today.
Owned and produced by the Consumer Technology Association (CTA), it attracts the world’s business leaders and leading companies. This year CES showcases more than 4,500 exhibiting companies, including manufacturers, developers and suppliers of consumer technology hardware, content, technology delivery systems and more.
What to expect at CES?
Here are some of my picks what new to expect:
LG and Samsung are going to introduce 8K image resolution TV products at CES 2019. The attractiveness of 8K products is hampered not only by the high price but also by the fact that content produced with 8K accuracy is not yet widely available. LG is adding artificial intelligence to signal processing on TVs.
The most revolutionary innovations in mobile technology are expected to be 5G and foldable phone displays. Samsung, LG and Royolen expected to say something about the forthcoming fold-phone market CES. 5G technology is to be featured in several speeches, and at the fair twenty companies present 5G products and services.
For the first time last year, Google, which was impressively represented at CES, is expected to have an outperformance last year this year. I expect to see smart phones and IoT products from Google.

On sensors:

On the future of AR/VR:
“I think optics are coming. It’s going to be a long road, but I think AR and VR are going to work, and that we’re going to have heads-up displays that are going to remove the need for what we have now, which is this little pane of glass that we’re expected to experience the whole world through. The whole world is going to open up around us.
I think AR has tons of potential applications, both at work and at home. [But] I think VR is going to be about 1,000 times bigger. In the Valley right now, this is a very contrarian view.

The US tech industry is weathering a crisis of confidence over data protection and a difficult geopolitical situation, with record sales expected in 2019, organizers of the Consumer Electronics Show said Sunday.
The Consumer Technology Association (CTA) predicted that US retail revenue in the sector would climb to a record high $398 billion this year.
The forecast was unveiled ahead of the opening of the giant fair which from January 8-11 will showcase the newest tech in mobile computing, health, sports, automobiles, agriculture and more.

Every CES unveils a host of new apps, gadgets and packaging gimmicks. Diverse products, ranging from smart speakers and electric motorcycles to IoT devices and robots, often add multiple microphones, cameras and sensors to the previous model. This puts extra pressure on the chips inside systems to handle enhancements such as noise reduction, speech recognition and neural networks, in addition to PHY control (for modems) and sensor fusion — all in a much more efficient manner, according to Ceva Inc.
Taking a cue from market trends, Ceva has developed a new DSP architecture called Ceva-BX which it will be demonstrating at CES.

VR seems to be the popular whipping boy amongst the tech community. It’s easy to point out the negatives without highlighting the many positives. The main issue here is that not many people have tried VR to defend it and are happy to accept this narrow minded view. It’s still very early days, yes but still an incredible experience in its current state
There is nothing correct about the titles assertion that VR is crashing. Player counts are growing, the VR library is pretty comprehensive, VR users doubled from last year, VR specific gaming channels are booming. VR is delivering the most compelling and innovative gameplay in the industry. Mainstream VR is still the most exciting thing to happen to gaming in the last decade.

In what many are speculating was an over-the-top PR stunt, Promobot revealed one of its model v4 robots was ‘killed’ by a Tesla Model S on a Las Vegas street ahead of CES.
The accident occurred on Paradise Rd Sunday night as engineers transported the firm’s robots to the display booth.
‘We brought this robot here from Philadelphia to participate at CES. Now it neither cannot participate in the event or be recovered.
