Trying to probe a modern electronic circuit with tiny SMD components, without letting the magic smoke escape in the process, can be quite a challenge.
[Giuseppe Finizia] solved this problem with a 3D printed PCB probing jigthat uses acupuncture needles.
[Jonathon Oxer] from the YouTube channel SuperHouse did a very nice video on the jig and made some small modifications.
I think this kind of jig would have been useful on some hardware hacking project…
When probing board, you often you would have few extra hand that do not move when you move your ass a bit.
Comment I saw on Facebook 2600 group: Excellent jig, but the choice of acupuncture needles for the probes is awful.
I did some Googling on acupuncture needles and found this info on them:
“Today, the most commonly used needle is the metal filiform (thread-like) needle that is made from stainless steel. Very occasionally, silver or gold needles are used.”
All those materials should be ok for electrical probe use.
