Keeping drones in check article tells that situation has gotten so bad that California’s governor recently had to veto several state bills that attempted to aggressively regulate hobbyist drone flight because o. Meanwhile, the FAA has named a 25-member task force chartered with coming up with drone registration and other regulation recommendations. Effective December 21, 2015, anyone who owns a small unmanned aircraft of a certain weight in USA must register with the Federal Aviation Administration’s Unmanned Aircraft System (UAS) registry before they fly outdoors.


The fundamental question here, as with plenty of innovations that have come before, is how to keep technology from slipping out of control. How do we simultaneously support and encourage technology implementations that we as a society judge to be improvements on what currently exists, while suppressing the inevitable disadvantages? Nobody seems to have obvious answers.
