I have critically mentioned this Finnish invention earlier on blog. New research shows that it does not work.

Valkee Ltd collapses as predicted: All share capital lost
    http://earlightswindle.com/gloom/2017/04/valkee-ltd-collapses-as-predicted-all-share-capital-lost/

The finnish trade register has just announced, that the HumanCharger manufacturer Valkee Ltd has lost all of its share capital. That means, that all of the company’s ressources are depleted, and new capital is not in sight – not even theoretically.

Despite negative publicity Valkee business seems to be growing according to this article:

Some people have had idea for nose lights:

Red light nose probes. (And a DIY one for your snitch too.)

What better way to treat hay fever than to jam two red LEDs up your nose. I’ll let you guys decide if you think this works.
I’ve included a DIY version too that can also double up as a USB power-bank powered Halloween effect.
Note that I do not condone sticking LEDs up your orifices.

Kiistanalaisia korvavaloja myynyt suomalaisyhtiö on joutunut maksuvaikeuksiin – tuotteiden terveysväittämiä kyseenalaistettiin rajusti
    https://www.mtvuutiset.fi/artikkeli/kiistanalaisia-korvavaloja-myynyt-suomalaisyhtio-on-joutunut-maksuvaikeuksiin-tuotteiden-terveysvaittamia-kyseenalaistettiin-rajusti/7880876#gs.bccp82

    Oululaisyritys Valkee on päätynyt protestilistalle.

Kirkasvalokuulokkeita valmistava Valkee on saanut tänä vuonna jo kuusi trattaprotestia, joiden yhteissumma on 16 208 euroa.

    Tuotteita kyseenalaistettu
Valkee myy kirkasvalokuulokkeita, joita on markkinoitu terveysväittämillä. Väittämiä on kuitenkin kyseenalaistettu ja pidetty tieteellisesti epäpätevinä.

Valkeen taloudellinen tilanne on herättänyt kysymyksiä jo pitkään.

    Korvavalo sai vuonna 2012 Skepsis ry:n Huuhaa-palkinnon.

KIISTANALAISIA korvavaloja myynyt Valkee Oy on hakeutunut konkurssiin.

Vuonna 2012 yhtiö sai Skepsis ry:n Huuhaa-palkinnon.

Vuonna 2013 yhtiö keräsi rahoituskierroksella 7,4 miljoonaa euroa. Yhtiö teki puolitoista miljoonaa euroa tappiota vuonna 2016.

The technique definitely can’t be used to control a human brain, but it may be helpful one day in treating neurological diseases.

Scientists Control Mice Behavior With Near-Infrared Rays The new technique eschews brain implants and tethers to help investigate natural behaviors
    https://spectrum.ieee.org/deep-brain-stimulation?utm_campaign=RebelMouse&socialux=facebook&share_id=6987361&utm_medium=social&utm_content=IEEE+Spectrum&utm_source=facebook

For the first time, scientists have invented a noninvasive way to control the brain circuits—the clusters of neurons in the brain that collectively perform a specific task—of freely moving lab animals from a distance. The new technique, which beams near-infrared light into the brain, may help researchers analyze how the brain works during normal behavior, and may one day lead to new treatments for brain diseases in people.

existing optogenetics techniques are often limited in what they can accomplish because of their reliance on visible light. The brain is quite opaque to visible light, so getting the light to the neurons that researchers want to target usually requires invasive implants and skull-mounted fiber-optic cables, “which inevitably causes brain damage or alters the animal’s behavior,”

In a new study, researchers overcame this problem with the use of near-infrared light—specifically, wavelengths ranging from 1,000 to 1,700 nanometers known as “near-infrared II”—to which biological tissues, including the brain and skull, are essentially transparent. This makes it possible to deliver such light much deeper into the brain.

First the scientists genetically modified cells to produce a molecule known as TRPV1. This heat-sensitive protein helps people feel heat-related pain, as well as the spicy burn of chili peppers, and its discovery received the Nobel Prize in Medicine in 2021. A similar molecule gives rattlesnakes and other pit vipers the ability to hunt warm-blooded prey in the dark.

The researchers also developed nanoparticles that could absorb near-infrared II light and convert it to heat that TRPV1 could sense. These roughly 40-nanometer-wide particles, dubbed MINDS, for “macromolecular infrared nanotransducers for deep-brain stimulation,” are made from biodegradable polymers used to produce organic solar cells and LEDs.
