Finland promises to offers free AI education to every EU citizen

Finland has promised to provide European citizens with free access to the Elements of AI, the groundbreaking online course made by Reaktor and the University of Helsinki. The course will be made available in all the official EU languages. This initiative by the Finnish Presidency aims to respond to the challenges posed by the transformation of work and to reinforce the digital leadership of the EU.

Elements of AI course is designed to want to encourage as broad a group of people as possible to learn what AI is, what can (and can’t) be done with AI, and how to start creating AI methods.
So far, the course has reached over 220,000 students worldwide. Over 40% of our course takers are women (more than doubling the global Computer Science average).

Finland is making its online AI crash course free to the world

Originally designed for Finnish citizens, now anyone can sign up

Last year, Finland launched a free online crash course in artificial intelligence with the aim of educating its citizens about the new technology. Now, as a Christmas present to the world, the European nation is making the six week program available for anyone to take.

The course, named Elements of AI, is currently available in English, Swedish, Estonian, Finnish, and German.

“Finland knows it doesn’t have the resources to compete with China or the United States for artificial intelligence supremacy, so it’s trying to outsmart them.”
