“People want everything to be a lot more repairable than it is now.”
While there’s still a long way to go, advocates say, European thinking on the topic appears years ahead of that in the United States.
Specifically, Europe’s new regulations demand that manufacturers of washing machines, dishwashers, refrigerators, and displays (including televisions) make spare parts and repair documentation available to professional third-party repairers.
In 2024, this scheme is slated to evolve into one that scores the overall durability of products, repairability being one component.

HMD Global tunnetaan ennen kaikkea Nokia-älypuhelinten valmistajana. Nyt yhtiö on julkistanut ensimmäiset omalla HMD-brändillä valmistetut puhelimensa. Kyse on tärkeästä askeleesta suomalaisen valmistajan polulla.
HMD on antanut ensimmäisellä omalle puhelinperheelleen nimen Pulse. Sarja käsittää kolme mallia, jotka kaikki asettuvat halpapuhelimien luokkaan. Mallit ovat nimeltään Pulse, Pulse+ ja Pulse Pro. Kaikkien hinta jää alle 200 euron.
Tällä rahalla saa Unisoc T606 -järjestelmäpiirin, 6,56-tuumaisen 90 hertsin virkistystaajuudella varustetun näytön, 4-6 gigatavua RAM-muistia ja tallennustilaa joko 64-128 gigatavua (perus- ja +-mallit) tai jopa 256 gigatavua. MicroSD-kortilla tila on laajennettavissa. Korttitelakka on hybridimallia, joten siihen saa kaksi SIM-korttia tai yhden SIM-kortin ja yhden MicroSD-kortin. pro-mallissa on parempi kamera (50 MP pääkenno). iso 5000 milliampeeritunnin akku tuo toiminta-aikaa jopa 59 tuntia.
Mitä ei saa? No ei saa markkinoiden tehokkainta prosessoria eikä 5G-yhteyksiä. Eikä laturia. Kasvojen tunnistus toimii, samoin sormenjäljenlukija on laitteen kyljessä. Lisäksi luvassa on kahden vuoden päivitykset käyttöjärjestelmään (Android 14 myytäessä) ja kolmen vuoden tietoturvapäivitykset. Halpapuhelimelle tämä on kiitettävä päivityslupaus, ilman muuta.
Lisäksi Pulse-puhelimet ovat korjattavia. Näytön, takakannen, taipuneen latausliittimen ja akun voi vaihtaa iFixitin korjaussarjalla. Tämä on selvästi yleistyvä trendi maailmalla ja HMD arvioi itse, että jatkossa kolme neljästä HMD-puhelimista on itsekorjattavia.

Euroopan parlamentti on hyväksynyt kuluttajien korjauttamisoikeutta koskevat säännöt. Säännöillä selvennetään valmistajien velvollisuutta korjata muun muassa elektroniikkatuotteita sekä kannustetaan kuluttajia pidentämään laitteidensa elinkaarta.
EU-parlamentissa meni tiistaina läpi uusi korjauttamisoikeusdirektiivi äänin 584 puolesta, 3 vastaan ja 14 tyhjää.
Uusilla säännöillä on tarkoitus varmistaa, että valmistajat tarjoavat kustannustehokkaita korjauspalveluja sekä kertovat korjauttamisoikeudesta selvästi myös asiakkailleen.
Asetus koskee kännyköiden ja muiden teknisesti korjattavissa olevien elektroniikkalaitteiden lisäksi myös kodinkoneita.
Uuden direktiivin myötä valmistaja on velvollinen korjaamaan laitteen kohtuulliseen hintaan ja kohtuullisessa ajassa myös takuun päättymisen jälkeen.
Mikäli laite korjataan takuuaikana, on lakisääteistä takuuaikaa jatkettava yhdellä vuodella.

Kännyköiden näytönvaihdolle voi tulla runsaasti hintaa, jos vaihdettavana on Applen iPhone-puhelimien OLED-näyttöelementit. Nyt huoltoyritys Forum kertoo voivansa vaihtaa OLED:n tilalle myös edullisemman LCD-pohjaisen näytön.
Kännyköitä korjaavan Fonumin kuluttajatutkimuksen mukaan puolet suomalaisista jättää rikkinäisen puhelimen näytön korjaamatta hinnan takia. Siksi yritys on ottanut tarjontaansa Applen iPhone-malleihin myös perustason LCD-näyttövaihtoehdon.
Hintaero OLED- ja LCD-elementtien osalta on yrityksen mukaan huomattava. Esimerkiksi iPhone 14 Pro Maxin OLED-näytön korjaaminen LCD-näytöllä voi olla Fonumin mukaan jopa 330 euroa edullisempi kuin OLED-näytönvaihto. Nettisivulla näytönvaihdon hinnaksi kerrotaan noin 100-200 euroa hieman iPhone-mallista riippuen.
Toki LCD- ja OLED-näytöillä on myös käytännön teknisiä eroja, kuten OLED:n laajempi katselukulma, näytön kirkkaus ja akun virrankulutus. Hyvinä puolina OLED-näyttöissä on myös yksittäisten pikselien hallinta mahdollistaa syvemmät mustan sävyt sekä alhaisemman virrankulutus.
