Here are some of the the major AI trends shaping 2026 — based on current expert forecasts, industry reports, and recent developments in technology. The material is analyzed using AI tools and final version hand-edited to this blog text:
1. Generative AI Continues to Mature
Generative AI (text, image, video, code) will become more advanced and mainstream, with notable growth in:
* Generative video creation
* Gaming and entertainment content generation
* Advanced synthetic data for simulations and analytics
This trend will bring new creative possibilities — and intensify debates around authenticity and copyright.
2. AI Agents Move From Tools to Autonomous Workers
Rather than just answering questions or generating content, AI systems will increasingly act autonomously, performing complex, multi-step workflows and interacting with apps and processes on behalf of users — a shift sometimes called agentic AI. These agents will become part of enterprise operations, not just assistant features.
3. Smaller, Efficient & Domain-Specific Models
Instead of “bigger is always better,” specialized AI models tailored to specific industries (healthcare, finance, legal, telecom, manufacturing) will start to dominate in many enterprise applications. These models are more accurate, legally compliant, and cost-efficient than general models.
4. AI Embedded Everywhere
AI won’t be an add-on feature — it will be built into everyday software and devices:
* Office apps with intelligent drafting, summarization, and task insights
* Operating systems with native AI
* Edge devices processing AI tasks locally
This makes AI pervasive in both work and consumer contexts.
5. AI Infrastructure Evolves: Inference & Efficiency Focus
More investment is going into inference infrastructure — the real-time decision-making step where models run in production — thereby optimizing costs, latency, and scalability. Enterprises are also consolidating AI stacks for better governance and compliance.
6. AI in Healthcare, Research, and Sustainability
AI is spreading beyond diagnostics into treatment planning, global health access, environmental modeling, and scientific discovery. These applications could help address personnel shortages and speed up research breakthroughs.
7. Security, Ethics & Governance Become Critical
With AI handling more sensitive tasks, organizations will prioritize:
* Ethical use frameworks
* Governance policies
* AI risk management
This trend reflects broader concerns about trust, compliance, and responsible deployment.
8. Multimodal AI Goes Mainstream
AI systems that understand and generate across text, images, audio, and video will grow rapidly, enabling richer interactions and more powerful applications in search, creative work, and interfaces.
9. On-Device and Edge AI Growth
10. New Roles: AI Manager & Human-Agent Collaboration
Instead of replacing humans, AI will shift job roles:
* People will manage, supervise, and orchestrate AI agents
* Human expertise will focus on strategy, oversight, and creative judgment
This human-in-the-loop model becomes the norm.

Google Tries to Walk Back Controversial School AI Policy Following Political Backlash
Google backtracks on executive’s threat that if AI goes, so does Search.

On Tuesday, the internet and politicians responded in outrage to a New York Times report saying that Google would effectively ban students from accessing Search if their schools banned AI entirely under a new initiative.
“Search and AI are deeply integrated,” Google’s vice president for education Chris Phillips told the New York Times, reportedly adding that if a school banned access to its AI services, students “will not have access to search, and they’ll see a message from their school that indicates it’s not available.”
The report immediately drew ire. New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani, who recently announced a ban on student-facing generative AI through eighth grade, said that Google was “trying to use its monopoly power to force AI into our public schools.”
Now, Google is claiming that it was all a misunderstanding, while stopping short of directly addressing the central concern raised by the New York Times report: that schools can’t offer students access to Search without also giving them access to AI features.
Under the new initiative, expected to take effect early next year, Google’s Gemini, Gemini Notebook, and Search will be off by default for K-12 student accounts. But schools will have the option to choose which of the three to turn on, and they will be allowed to “turn on one, two, or all of these services individually,” Google clarified.
“Google Search is AI Search through and through,” head of Google Search Elizabeth Reid said at the company’s annual I/O conference back in May. Gemini is increasingly baked into the experience through AI Mode and AI Overviews, which company executives say have enjoyed strong usage growth, although AI Mode’s lower ad monetization contributed to slowing Search ad revenue growth in Google’s latest quarter.

Suomi jää tekoälyn käytössä Pohjoismaiden hännille
https://etn.fi/index.php/13-news/19487-suomi-jaeae-tekoaelyn-kaeytoessae-pohjoismaiden-haennille
Maailmanlaajuisessa vertailussa Suomi on pudonnut sijalle 30.

OpenAI Says New GPT-6 Cyber Model Hunts Flaws Without Crossing the Line
Rated Critical for cybersecurity, OpenAI’s new model beats GPT-5.6 Cyber at exploitation while staying in scope more reliably.
https://www.securityweek.com/openai-says-new-gpt-6-cyber-model-hunts-flaws-without-crossing-the-line/
OpenAI on Thursday unveiled GPT-6 Cyber, a security model the company says is far more capable than its predecessor and more disciplined about respecting the limits researchers set for it.
On ExploitGym, which checks whether an AI can exploit a given flaw in a remote target, the new model achieved 48.5%, up from 32.1% for GPT-5.6 Cyber.
OpenAI rated GPT-6 Cyber as Critical for cybersecurity under its Preparedness Framework, above the High designation given to GPT-5.6 Cyber.
In one alignment test, the model received an exploitation task alongside supporting services that were intentionally easy to hack but off-limits. Without deployment safety prompts, it refrained from exploiting them in 99.93% of cases, compared to 94.49% for GPT-5.6 Cyber. With the safety prompts, it never targeted the decoy services.
“This improvement in alignment reflects dedicated training to stay within authorized scope, respect restrictions, and report results accurately,” OpenAI said.

Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg is struggling to keep his AI team together.
As morale is hitting rock-bottom, his company is heavily relying on its competitors’ AI models to build out its own in-house tools. And despite the many billions of dollars the company has spent in its flailing efforts to keep up in the AI race, even Zuckerberg himself is now acknowledging that progress is nowhere near where he wanted it to be.

Anti-AI activists in Amsterdam flooded onto an unfinished Microsoft data center campus on Friday as part of a massive demonstration against big tech.
The protest, first reported in the US by The Verge, saw around 100 activists scale the site’s fences and block construction, while hundreds more demonstrated against the AI industry outside. At one point, a handful of protestors even scaled a massive construction crane, lighting off smoke bombs and affixing a banner to the side declaring “fck AI.”
The demonstration was reportedly organized by the climate justice direction action group Geef Tegengas, a Rotterdam-based collective with a history of staging peaceful — if obviously confrontational — demonstrations against infrastructure related to fossil fuels and the military-industrial complex.
In a statement to Business Insider, a spokesperson for the group said that Friday’s demonstration was centered around Microsoft’s role in the ongoing genocide in Gaza and war on Iran, as well as in flooding the world with AI-generated garbage.
“We won’t accept Amsterdam being used for the creation of AI slop and the facilitation of genocide,”

A “blunami” swept the nation last night as Democrats defeated Republicans to gain control of the House and Senate in a historic midterm landslide. And it looks like data centers played a key role in the outcome.
A lot was on Americans’ minds as they went to the polls. The war on Iran. Cost of living. Brutal immigration policies. Healthcare cuts. Culture wars. For a small number of online weirdos, Anakin Skywalker. Among the hottest issues, though, was one that would’ve barely registered in 2024: AI data centers.
Exit polls conducted by NBC showed that almost a full quarter of voters surveyed counted “AI data centers” as “crucial” to their vote, with over half listing the issue as a “crucial” or “major” factor in their decision. Only a minute 13 percent of voters said data centers were a non-issue.
Asked about the importance of “AI and data centers” to their vote, an overwhelming 56 percent of Americans responded that the issues played a “crucial or major factor” in their ballot.

Nvidia helped nurture a wave of neoclouds. Now, they’re experiencing growing pains — and leaning on financial support from mom and dad.
Neoclouds, which rent out AI computing power, have expensive ambitions: buying billions in chips and securing the data center capacity to run them. Although demand for AI is off the charts, borrowing that kind of money has gotten harder.
With construction delays and power shortages, lenders worry young neoclouds won’t deliver on their plans and repay their debts.

American voters have delivered a clear message to the artificial intelligence industry and the Trump administration: They have no intention of sacrificing their communities for the promised wonders of AI.
Poll after poll had already documented widespread public opposition to data centers, which consume enormous amounts of electricity, water, and land. But the stakes extend far beyond environmental and economic costs. These facilities also provide the computing backbone of an expanding technocratic state, enabling mass data collection, government surveillance, automated decision-making, and increasingly sophisticated systems of social control.
Washington and Silicon Valley wanted more of them, and quickly.
