Here are some of the the major AI trends shaping 2026 — based on current expert forecasts, industry reports, and recent developments in technology. The material is analyzed using AI tools and final version hand-edited to this blog text:
1. Generative AI Continues to Mature
Generative AI (text, image, video, code) will become more advanced and mainstream, with notable growth in:
* Generative video creation
* Gaming and entertainment content generation
* Advanced synthetic data for simulations and analytics
This trend will bring new creative possibilities — and intensify debates around authenticity and copyright.
2. AI Agents Move From Tools to Autonomous Workers
Rather than just answering questions or generating content, AI systems will increasingly act autonomously, performing complex, multi-step workflows and interacting with apps and processes on behalf of users — a shift sometimes called agentic AI. These agents will become part of enterprise operations, not just assistant features.
3. Smaller, Efficient & Domain-Specific Models
Instead of “bigger is always better,” specialized AI models tailored to specific industries (healthcare, finance, legal, telecom, manufacturing) will start to dominate in many enterprise applications. These models are more accurate, legally compliant, and cost-efficient than general models.
4. AI Embedded Everywhere
AI won’t be an add-on feature — it will be built into everyday software and devices:
* Office apps with intelligent drafting, summarization, and task insights
* Operating systems with native AI
* Edge devices processing AI tasks locally
This makes AI pervasive in both work and consumer contexts.
5. AI Infrastructure Evolves: Inference & Efficiency Focus
More investment is going into inference infrastructure — the real-time decision-making step where models run in production — thereby optimizing costs, latency, and scalability. Enterprises are also consolidating AI stacks for better governance and compliance.
6. AI in Healthcare, Research, and Sustainability
AI is spreading beyond diagnostics into treatment planning, global health access, environmental modeling, and scientific discovery. These applications could help address personnel shortages and speed up research breakthroughs.
7. Security, Ethics & Governance Become Critical
With AI handling more sensitive tasks, organizations will prioritize:
* Ethical use frameworks
* Governance policies
* AI risk management
This trend reflects broader concerns about trust, compliance, and responsible deployment.
8. Multimodal AI Goes Mainstream
AI systems that understand and generate across text, images, audio, and video will grow rapidly, enabling richer interactions and more powerful applications in search, creative work, and interfaces.
9. On-Device and Edge AI Growth
10. New Roles: AI Manager & Human-Agent Collaboration
Instead of replacing humans, AI will shift job roles:
* People will manage, supervise, and orchestrate AI agents
* Human expertise will focus on strategy, oversight, and creative judgment
This human-in-the-loop model becomes the norm.

Hell is officially breaking loose for the gaming industry thanks to AI

Viral games like Minecraft inside Elden Ring, PS5 emulators, and recent jailbreaks can all be tied to Claude in some way
There’s an upheaval happening in the video game industry right now, and it’s a major threat to publishers and video game developers alike. The outcome of this paradigm shift won’t be fully evident for years, but the cause is obvious: Artificial intelligence has advanced faster than anyone anticipated.
Perhaps you’ve witnessed this seismic event without even realizing it. The last week or so has seen an explosion of projects that combine mainstream video games into fully playable experiences that don’t even sound real. Super Mario 64 in Elden Ring. Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater in Call of Duty. Minecraft inside Pokémon. Marvel’s Spider-Man inside Batman: Arkham Asylum.
All of these fever-dream amalgamations are the product of Claude Opus 5.5, which was released back on Sept. 22. Opus is powerful enough that users can reverse-engineer projects at incredible speed. What Opus does is technically possible for a human, but would normally take years. Opus instead needs only a few minutes to figure out how game developers built the gameplay mechanics and infrastructure holding together relatively modern video games.
Many of these games shouldn’t be compatible with one another, as they are composed of different building blocks. After Opus figures out how a game works, it can essentially build a script bridge that translates each individual game’s quirks, like the animation and physics, into a language that the other game can understand. Critically, much of this has been made possible by the release of third-party tools like the Universal Modder, which streamlines all the processes an AI needs to combine games into a single package.
What’s happening with PS5 emulators and jailbreaks?
As these gaming mashups proliferate, Sony has found itself at the center of an intellectual property fight. The same technology that makes those game combinations possible is also partially to blame for the sudden advances in PlayStation 5 emulators on PC. Projects like SharpEmu and KytyPS5 are both human-driven efforts built from scratch, and these tools allow PCs to boot and run PS5 games at native 4K resolution.
These emulators have limitations, and some of the earliest playable game projects can be glitchy.
As PS5 emulators make strides, Sony is also contending with worrying progress on the PS5 jailbreak front. Breaking free from the hardware ecosystem has been possible for a while now, but pulling it off has been somewhat prohibitive for average gamers. A new exploit called Relapse allows PS5 owners to gain kernel access to the system without the use of a PC, straight from the console’s own interface. Hackers do have to use systems with older firmware, but the firmware version number is recent enough that most of the PS5′s major releases this year could be pirated on the platform.
Relapse was authored by humans, but the exploit is inextricably linked to AI. Jailbroken devices make it possible for vibe coders to make and distribute emulators, recompilation projects, and other home-brew apps that would normally take a long time to develop. And users can get Super Mario ported to PS5 while optimizing those game files to be nearly 50% smaller than their official counterparts.
Still, if this is what is possible in only a few weeks after a major AI breakthrough, one can only imagine where things will be a few months from now. DMCA takedowns can only go so far when seemingly no game is safe. Factor in that the law hasn’t quite caught up with AI developments, and you’ve got to imagine this ordeal has gaming executives sweating.

Go ahead and use AI to make your video game — if you want the result to be derivative trash, that is.
Masahiro Sakurai, the creator of the iconic Super Smash Bros and Kirby franchises, recently unloaded on how developers are using AI to “churn out” video games, saying the tech is speeding up development time at the expense of quality and originality.
The topic came up in an interview with the Japanese video game outlet Denfaminico Gamer while discussing the overwhelming wave of new video game titles that are proliferating on platforms like Steam. Sakurai, however, seemed to dismiss a lot of the new stuff as AI-generated sludge.
“19,000 titles is an impressive number,” he began, referring to an estimate of the number of games added to Steam in a single year, “but I’m certain that figure will only continue to grow — largely because AI will be used to churn them out.”
“The vast majority of these will likely be ‘unprofitable’ titles,”
AI, Sakurai later suggested, is exacerbating this rigid and unoriginal thinking, saying that most of what it creates “will likely consist of systems lifted directly from existing games.”

In case there was any doubt over the powerful tide of anti-AI sentiment, a new poll shows that most Americans are incredibly pessimistic about the technology.
The poll, conducted in a collaboration between the Washington Post, ABC News, and the research and consulting firm IPSOS, showed that 57 percent of Americans now believe AI is outright bad for society, while just 42 percent say it’s good.
And the ardent pessimists dwarf the bullish optimists. A full 17 percent think AI is in fact “extremely” bad, compared to a measly 2 percent who say it’s extremely good.
The poll, which gathered responses from over 2,500 adults, comes after months of remarkably alarmist rhetoric from the AI industry, even compared to its history of casually doomsaying about its own tech.

In early June, a fire broke out in a still-unfinished building at the Lake Mariner data center in Somerset, New York, exposing just how little the local fire department knew about what it was walking into. Firefighters reportedly found no working alarm, no suppression system, and three dead hydrants; the safety documents they’re legally entitled to see reportedly burned up in the blaze.
Steve Matisz, chief of the Barker Fire Department, said his crew went into the building “kind of blind,” facing heavy black smoke from chemicals they couldn’t identify because the safety sheets meant to inform them had apparently burned up. “It’s been a difficult situation,” Matisz said. He wasn’t sure what to think about the claim that the safety sheets had burned in the fire.

McKinsey just put a massive price tag on AI’s promise. Its new report, “The AI value curve,” estimates artificial intelligence could generate $2.52 trillion in annual global economic value by automating and supporting existing work.
But there’s a catch hiding inside that number. If the effective cost of AI rises just 30%, that value pool shrinks to $1.67 trillion — wiping out around $850 billion. In the United States alone, the same cost jump would erase $320 billion, dropping the US pool from $960 billion to $640 billion.
Where’s the money? Financial services leads with $530 billion in potential annual gains, followed by education at $410 billion, technology, media and telecom at $360 billion, and healthcare at $310 billion. McKinsey also estimates around $7 trillion could be invested in AI infrastructure by 2030 — an outlay that would need roughly $760 billion in annual profit pools to justify itself.
The report’s blunt message to businesses: many organisations are still measuring AI adoption instead of value. The winners will be the ones that track real returns, weigh the full cost of deployment — including supervision, verification and rework — and plan to redeploy people as work changes. Note these are modelled scenarios, not forecasts.

Microsoft’s new AI is surpassing the abilities of human doctors — according to its own study, at least.
The research, which was peer-reviewed and published in the prestigious journal Science, showed that the medical model, dubbed the Microsoft AI Diagnostic Orchestrator (MAI-DxO), was over twice as accurate than generalist physicians at diagnosing patients. And unlike previous studies, this one forced the AI to approach each case like an actual doctor would, instead of being armed with all the facts right away.
The tests were conducted in a controlled benchmark setting, meaning its usefulness in a true medical environment is up for debate. Still, Microsoft was eager to declare victory.
The company’s CEO of its AI lab Mustafa Suleyman said the age of AI improving lives through healthcare “is finally here,” telling The Verge that further advances are right around the corner.

Your Gmail, Google Drive, and Google Photos data are now being used to create personalized ads.
Yes, seriously.
Google’s old privacy policy said personalized ads weren’t based on content from Gmail, Drive or Photos. The version that took effect on October 16 adds a catch: that’s true — unless you decided to make data from those services available to other Google services.
Now, all of that data can be used for personalized ads.
That choice is tied to Personal Intelligence, a Gemini AI feature that lets apps like Search, Gmail and Photos share what they know about you so the assistant can be more helpful. With it turned on, Search can use that connected data to personalize what it shows you, including ads.
Google says Personal Intelligence is opt-in, and advertisers still can’t see your emails, photos or personal details like your name and email address without permission.
But privacy advocates worry about a familiar pattern, where features that start as optional quietly become the default.
If you want to limit it, you can turn off personalized recommendations in your Google Account under Data & privacy, then Personalization settings.
source: Sattelberg, W. (2026, October 23). Google will target ads based on Gmail, Photos data if Personal Intelligence is enabled. 9to5Google.

Doomsaying about the coming AI apocalypse is no longer relegated to outbursts from a few tech billionaires.
Now, the major American banks whose policies dictate the flow of capital throughout the world are starting to worry about rogue AI, preparing contingency plans for the “day after” a theoretical AI-driven catastrophe.
That’s according to new reporting from Axios, which notes that banks are preparing for the worst as they experience a huge rise in AI agent activity on behalf of individual customers.
The main worry seems to be an influx of financial activity driven by autonomous AI agents, which have been authorized to access bank accounts by their human users. In some cases, as Axios noted previously, those agents are making moves that haven’t explicitly been prompted by humans — a few even going so far as to contact call centers on behalf of their users, without being instructed to do so.

BREAKING: Global data center spending is expected to hit $1 trillion in 2026 and more than double to $2.1 trillion by 2028, BofA Global Research estimated in a note.
• AI is seen driving the expansion, which the brokerage says will fuel a 37% market-wide CAGR from 2025 to 2030, the brokerage said.
• BofA put data center construction costs at $49 million per megawatt, with IT-related expenses making up 78% of total spend.
• The brokerage estimates servers are the costliest component at $31.4 million per megawatt, and networking the second-largest at $4.8 million per megawatt.
Data center spending has been a fast-growing source of revenue for industrial firms that make generators, construction equipment, switchgears and chillers.
• Most other functions – switchgear, power distribution, generators, backup power, chillers and cooling – cost between $100,000 to $1.1 million per megawatt.

Näin telkkarista riisutaan tarpeettomat älyominaisuudet
Tekoälyn avulla luotujen ilmaissovellukset luvataan karsivan pois turhat toiminnot ja tekevän televisioiden käytöstä nopeampaa.

Tekoälyä on ryhdytty käyttämään televisioiden riisumiseksi erilaisista älyominaisuuksista, muun muassa Techcrunch uutisoi.
People are using AI to make their smart TVs dumb again
https://techcrunch.com/2026/10/19/people-are-using-ai-to-make-their-smart-tvs-dumb-again/
The latest use case for AI? Dumbing down your smart TV to get rid of the bloat. A number of developers and vibe coders have recently been sharing solutions for “vibe-coding” your TV to get rid of sponsored ads, speed up the app launcher, redesign the home screen, disable tracking features, and more.
One such solution, called “dumbtv,” describes its mission on its GitHub page thus: “Your TV should do what you paid for: your apps, your HDMI inputs, and nothing else. No ads from the TV itself, no watch tracking, no update you did not ask for.”
Another, “cleanyourtv,” promises to strip the bloatware from any Android TV or Google TV over Wi-Fi, to replace the launcher with one that resembles Apple TV.
While hacking consumer electronics devices to gain more control over their systems is hardly a new idea, the latest advances in AI technology have made such efforts much more accessible to anyone. With smart TVs in particular, the hacks come at a time when people have grown frustrated with being forced to watch ads and put up with their devices surveilling their viewing habits.
Modern smart TVs ship with a technology called automatic content recognition (ACR), which identifies what’s playing on the screen using screenshots, audio clips, or other forms of digital fingerprinting.
If these “dumb TV” hacks become more popular among everyday consumers, they have the potential to disrupt the smart TV ad industry, which profits from selling viewing data to advertisers or using it to display personalized ads on their own interfaces.

“I had Claude Code clean it up over Wi-Fi and build a simple home screen with just their apps on it. I put the prompt on GitHub, tweeted the before and after, and a few thousand people did the same to their own TVs over the next two days. Xiaomi, TCL, Sony, Fire TV, LG, a projector or two,” the developer wrote on a website for donations, linked from the project’s homepage.
