In this edition, Finland (1st), Singapore (2nd) and Sweden (3rd) continue to lead the NRI, with the Netherlands (4th), Norway (5th), Switzerland (6th), the United Kingdom (7th), Denmark (8th), the United States (9th) and Taiwan, China (10th) completing the top 10.

Internet of Things is working days, not a bunch of visions

Pöyry’s CEO Pasi Tolppanen looks at the technology industry CEO blog, industrial Internet and downloaded to the expectations of Finnish savior.

He wants to bring out the engineering point of view: industrial internet has long been the norm, and it develops step by step in all sectors.

“Engineers may be painful to see the industry in innovation to be treated as public figures: first, the Exalted from earth to heaven, and then pulled down the pedestals. Industrial activity is long-term and everyday. At times insights, most of the time they are carried out, “he writes on the blog.

Tolppanen raises two key issues that govern success in the future:

    1. Solve real problems
We need to be very open to different ideas, to be able to test them as quickly as possible and to start implementing the best.

    2. Keeping in mind the safety
No one knows how to secure all connected equipment. This requires the active preparation and anticipation of problems.

Although the speech on the Internet related to the industrial Tolppa- according to the hype, in his opinion, Finland can really rise if we can break through the limits of industrial sectors and security described in, for example, allows connections to more resource efficiency, energy, forestry, chemistry, software, and technology industry cooperation.

Billions of IT investments will only give negligible benefits in Finland

Sofigate has taken the municipalities of information management maturity analysis which seems to be a lot of improvement.

Municipalities, for example, used the money information management significantly less than in companies. Information management of municipal budget is only 0.7 to 2.1 per cent, while the best international companies invest in the development of 10 per cent of sales.

Despite this, in terms of euros municipalities spend annually on information technology and IT-projects of billions of euros, but the benefits are small.

The analysis, the overall architecture of the management of structural change in municipalities at a low level. This creates a risk of overlapping.

One problem is that information management is often not a natural part of everyday life sectors.

It was also found that IT projects do not achieve the desired benefits, because they are not sufficiently precise to define the planning stage.

The situation is not hopeless, and signs of improvement can be seen.

Do not external – at least in e-commerce

Right kind of resources for the development of e-commerce. He stresses that knowledge is constructed so that it is not in the hands of consultants, but they themselves in their own house.

“As I have discussed, for example, British or Dutch online merchants, all of them have told us that they have the hackers, inside the house. It is, after according to them, the entire core business, “Malinen says.

In his opinion, the fact that your house is how to code, hard analytics knowledge, as well as the psychology of understanding, lies in the staggering force. And, in his opinion, it should be strictly in-house

Certain types of companies are growing more and more of its own e-commerce expertise and buying in fewer consultants.

“The fact that, in principle, be outsourced all, is not always a smart thing. You may be better to help in other ways, ”

What is needed is a multi-skilled

“Through the testing found really matters affecting sales, and focused on making it. In business, analytics and IT side will be very close to each other. There are also such wonders, that they are in the same package, ”

This is going to be difficult to place in the labor market, the need to find a really good analysts with sufficient technical skills.

“Mathematicians and statisticians can be found. A big gap arises when they should be in the digital competence. And that is also generated when the coder should understood statistical science. Math and economy people often lack network development layer ”

In analytics there is already seen a shortage of labor.
“Finland’s small labor market, such a talent is not terribly easy to find,”

For Finland to attract new investment and new businesses we need excellence, competitive operating environment and concrete results.

At the same time, the existing research money to decrease. It makes innovation more difficult.

In 2013, Finland invested in research and product development 6.68 billion euros. Of particular concern is the fact that corporate investments in melted at 148 million euros. Electronics companies accounted for well over a hundred million.

Last year, R & D investment was 6.38 billion or EUR 300 million less than last year. We now show that Tekes’ powers are not, at least not growing and incorporated VTT Ltd not gaining any huge amount of additional funding.

VTT Leppävuori pointed out that money is not the only measure. – More important is to do the right things. When the future industrial internet to produce massive amounts of data can be stable in Finland as a country rise to this significant role.

    Finnish invention revealed the murderer

Sports Tracker tracking information were the key evidence in a murder story in the United States.

The police found that the phone’s memory found in Sports Tracker application training file with a timestamp matched with the spirit of the crime at the time. Incredibly, the girl’s Sports Tracker application had been on the whole the murder of the event, and for a long time after that.

The problem was that the FBI, the authorities did not know how to extract appliques encryption, and are thus able to interpret the data deposited by the application. So after a few weeks of trying too authorities made letters rogatory Finnish police through the Sports Tracker for last September.

    - Our specialists received the “decrypted” file in five minutes, says Sports Tracking Technologies Ltd’s CEO and founder Jussi Kaasinen.

At this point, the Finnish firm did not know what kind of a case related to the request, and the FBI refused to investigative reasons explain the case in detail. When the firm was demolished application information and placed the phone’s movements on the map, the reality was the first Google search result very obvious.

    - Senseless thing. It is seen that each of us in your pocket every day passing technology enables all kinds, sometimes very unexpected way, Kaasinen says.

Finland is the leading country in the number of mobile subscriptions in proportion to the number of inhabitants. This phenomenon is not explained by Nokia or Finnish teknologiauskollisuudella the rest of Europe, but the domestic deviating contractual practices. – almost two mobile connections per person

The Finns have acquired the most mobile subscriptions throughout the European per capita basis. Finnish Communications Regulatory Authority statistics, Finland is almost two mobile phone subscriptions per person, or 170 mobile subscriptions per 100 inhabitants. In the middle of 2014, Finland had gained about 9, 37 million mobile subscribers.

Not all connections are clean mobile phone subscriptions, but also calculated according to data connections, for example, tablets, or computers.

The number has a per capita basis the highest in Europe, even if other parts of the European continent, the number of subscriptions is many times greater.

Compared to France, for example, the number is significant. GSMA Intelligence data, for example, in 2013, France had 63.6 million mobile subscribers. The amount does not even cover all of the French population (64.5 inhabitants).

Communications Agency, it is believed that one reason for the phenomenon is due to the fact that the data very rapidly became widely used in Finland in the 2000s.

    - Data Usage is brought to overlapping subscriptions. The reason for this is that Finland started in 2007 at the end of the year to sell the current, such as mobile broadband. They have been unlimited and operating costs have been very predictable.

Subscriptions are also explained by the fact that one person may have a different telephone connection at work and at home.

    - This is a European scale, exceptional.

Finland subscription market are saturated and subscription growth has slowed down considerably in recent years. Therefore, the Communications Regulatory Authority estimated that ten million subscriber mark does not necessarily go out, even if the transfer is constantly increasing in Finland.

    - The objective in the EU is that in Europe, these connection fees could be more affordable in the same way as we do in Finland, Orkola says.

The weak economic situation will cut development projects with heavy-handed. Often, only the additional sales and customer encounters and projects aimed at can move. They, too, are under the magnifying glass, and failures can not afford. So how do we make sure that Internet shop project succeed?

    E-commerce development is a journey – not a project.

We interviewed the fall of 2014 about one hundred domestic corporate decision-makers in their own e-commerce development needs. The responses clearly shows that the development of e-commerce waves reflect well on the organization’s online business maturity that the network channel with the increasing significance.

Developing Wave 1: Prove that this is a business opportunity

When an organization is planning the first online store, an essential sight is a sales and ordering process optimization and automation where possible, also.

Throughout the development wave of business basis, of:
    • Cost savings,
    • order-to-delivery process efficiency,
    • accuracy and
    • transparency.

Developing Wave 2: Passive subscription channel to proactive sales engine

E-commerce to the actual potential is expected only after the first development phase is successful.
Our study showed that the development needs of the doubled compared to the first phase of the requirements.
Unmatched spearhead requirement is the second wave of real-time and high-quality product information.
Online, the present range of products designed to provide customers exactly the same as the company’s entire product range. All products must be displayed to the network, even if the products would not be able to order through the network. Otherwise, you teach your clients to buy elsewhere.

    Companies want to understand:
    • how customers behave,
    • where customers go and
    • how they end up buying products.

Developing Wave 3: Your customer is more important than your organization

The third wave of development as a key theme of the customer’s terms of action.

Coordination of the various technologies is becoming increasingly important. The customer must be able to use the service they prefer mobile device. On the other hand the client can not bounce a number of different systems. All transactions and information channels you want to merge into the Dealing whole.

TNS Gallup survey found that about 40% of Finnish people do not want to pay for content online.

Music is, after all the contents of the greatest willingness to pay-inspiring – as much as 23% of respondents would pay for online music services – the service should be able to use at a few euros a year price.

IFPI’s (Music Producers’ Association) statistics, for example, in 2012 recorded the retail value of sales as a whole was 67.9 million. For one of Finn, therefore, a little over 12 euros.

Music sales peak year in Finland was 2001, when the music was sold up to about 113 million!
(= one full-priced disc for every five million Finn).

One reason for the music sales decrease in the amounts shown in hardened competition in the consumer entertainment budget.

Movie popularity has at least been steadily on the rise. In 2006, Finnish-movie were 1.16 times a year – in 2011 it was 1.4

What about the turn games? Finnish people in 2013 spent money on games in Finland as high as 186 million. Physical products were sold in only 40% of the games, the rest were acquired by paying online content.

The music industry is therefore never in Finland is not the actual Eldorado. As well as movie and game are certainly eroded part of the pot, but the game industry has also shown potential for growth in terms of euros to be considerable.

    - Finland has worked really hard on tightening policy, without any pressure on the market. Politicians have been really irresponsible, Krugman said the new Finland in Stockholm today.

    - Do whatever, but do not, at least not tighten more. Do not make the situation worse, he continues.

    - All of Finland’s problems are rooted in one large operator, which has dominated the economy. By this I mean the operator of Nokia. It has not done very well and [change] has caused a large part of the Finnish problems.

Krugman’s view, the situation would be easier if Finland would not be involved in the euro area. Finland is the Nordic region unique among economic, because the country is unlike the other Nordic countries with the euro.

    Finland challenge the United States?

In many species a small country can successfully challenge bigger. The right tactics, team work, as well as the realization have been so in ice hockey, in war and in the business world challenger trump cards, if any, could be used. Can Finland challenge the world’s economic and military power in conjunction with a hot issue in today’s security – cyber security? Let’s find out a ten-point comparison.

The strategic importance of cyber security awareness and importance of Presidents of the speeches, the score tied.

Resources do not solve everything, but they are needed.
Although the allocation of resources relate to the Finnish economy, is a social economic investment in cyber security development in Finland remained at very low levels, in spite of the many speeches. -> USA wins

The central part of the cyber society is clear and up to date legislation. Both the United States and Finland in terms of cyber laws lived for many years in a sort of “intermediate state” – both loose

Trust and security go hand in hand, including cyber security. If there is no trust, there is no security, and vice versa.
    Confidence, however, point to Finland.

Cyber security is linked to the state digitalisation rate, ie how dependent (and thus vulnerable) society is the digital world activities.
Digitality rate both in Finland and in the United States and globally estimated high, but the social ability to tolerate both mentally and physically different cyber enviroment disruptions to give a point to Finland

Both countries are currently working hard to ensure that the country would be the world’s leading cyber-States.
Finland has a long tradition in the overall safety of the coordination and practical application. This allows for a smaller country to Finland in better agility and a better awareness of each other’s players

All activities, including cyber, needs leadership.
White House cyber coordinator acts as a government “Cyber Czar”. Point to the United States.

Even the United States can not build a strong cyber his country at national level. International co-operation is needed.
Relative to its size, Finland does not have to be ashamed of networking, although international cooperation networks must be able to create better. Scores for both.

Cyber security weakest – or the strongest – link is a man. Cyber security is a must in today’s societies, basic hygiene and civics.
The most serious cyber threats in the United States than in Finland is the people’s ignorance and lack of understanding. In my experience, I venture to say that the general level of know-how to act safely online, there is a higher, and the point of Finland.

The wide-ranging expertise, encryption tools, cyber security strategic consensus in both countries in proportion to its size, world class. It is the exploitation of knowledge as well as cyber-business promotion strength. In Finland, excellence is relatively more, but the weakness is our know-how, including parity solutions, pushing the world. Risk-taking ability and marketing are the latest expertise in the international success of a barrier. Competence point of Finland, the business promotion point to the United States.

Finland has all the prerequisites to be a world leader in cyber security. Comparison with the United States shows that the difficulties as opportunities are parallel to the two digitally networked and knowledge-based high-level country.
