Finland is number one ICT country

Tietoviikko reports that Finland (my home country) is the world’s best IT country according to World Economic Forum study The Global Information Technology Report 2013. According to the study, Finland is the world’s number one country when it comes to the economy’s ability to use information technology to competitiveness and prosperity. Finland has toppled Sweden from the top spot in a ranking of economies that are best placed to benefit from new information and communication technologies (ICTs). The question still remains how this result was got because there are many things in Finland ICT that are are far from very good, so are other countries just much lousier on those aspects?

At the core of the report, the Networked Readiness Index (NRI) measures the preparedness of an economy to use ICT to boost competitiveness and well-being. In this edition, Finland (1st), Singapore (2nd) and Sweden (3rd) continue to lead the NRI, with the Netherlands (4th), Norway (5th), Switzerland (6th), the United Kingdom (7th), Denmark (8th), the United States (9th) and Taiwan, China (10th) completing the top 10.

Global Information Technology Report 2013 has a nice map that visualizes the network readiness of different countries.

    The boss decides to Excel

Companies spend 90 percent of IT investment systems, and hope that the system would help to change the buying decision effective immediately

“This is the same phenomenon, which is why people are buying cookbooks and dream that the kitchen looks the same as book illustrations. But few will always use the cookbook when doing cooking “, say the Swedes decision-making experts and Ari Mona Riabacke.

The most common management tool still Excel, which can be found in Windows computers and the use of which is easy to start a basic level. It may be some uses good enough, as well as pen and paper.

Many customers would like a simple answer to the question, what is the best solution.

The answer will always depend on the company itself, its culture and people. Fits-all solution does not exist.

If a company really wants to develop decision-making, first need to understand how people act. Otherwise, an expensive system may be unnecessary shopping. Tools to support decision-making and the first you should find out what kind of decision-making are supported, before it can be recommended to support the solution.

    Companies are individuals

“We are programmed to avoid risk. If we have information for making decisions, it becomes a safe feeling. But if there is too much information, we do not know what to focus on. ”

Big data and business intelligence are trendy and accumulates data analysis systems at an incredible pace. 80 percent of the existing data types are said to be those which did not exist five years ago.

Usability is an investment in people: those who make the decisions in the end.

According to him, especially American firms patent litigation is going almost constantly. Fredrikson keep the October challenge “as a mere sign of the game.”

    - The game industry’s share of the increase is more than half, so yes, it is very significant, says the technology industry’s chief economist Jukka Palokangas.

Wireless wonderland: Finnish startup buys Microsoft test chambers to drive future of wi-fi and 5G
    http://www.zdnet.com/article/wireless-wonderland-finnish-startup-buys-microsoft-test-chambers-to-drive-future-of-wi-fi-and-5g/

Summary:Finnish startup Verkotan acquired mobile equipment testing facilities from Microsoft to offer wireless and 5G performance testing in Northern Europe.

Walk around central London in the rush hour and chances are you aren’t only left frustrated by the amount of people blocking the pavements, but by your mobile phone performance as well.

It’s exactly the kind of challenging radio environment that the Finnish startup Verkotan can recreate. It specialises in wireless performance testing using over-the-air (OTA) test chambers to measure how mobile phones, wearables, and other wireless devices perform in real-life conditions.

    Roots in Microsoft and Nokia

Verkotan was only officially founded in November last year, but it’s been quick to take off thanks to its roots in Microsoft and Nokia. Its six-member team has a long history of working with OTA testing and wireless performance at both companies, and when Microsoft last year announced it was closing the former Nokia R&D unit in Oulu, Northern Finland, Verkotan saw an opportunity. Its founders recognised the demand for OTA testing services and in January it signed a deal with Microsoft to buy its mobile equipment testing laboratories.

Now Verkotan has facilities to match its expertise, with four testing chambers totalling 1,100 cubic meters, and the acquisition (for an undisclosed amount) also includes software licensing and equipment.

Tailored tests cover almost any radio system from cellular radios and standalone GPS to Glonass and Bluetooth.

While OTA testing has been around since the early 21st century, demand for MIMO (Multiple-Input Multiple-Output) OTA testing has grown significantly in recent years.

Nokia’s N1 Tablet Looks Good For ‘Designed In Finland, Built On Android’ Strategy
    http://techcrunch.com/2015/03/04/nokia-n1-hands-on/

Nokia is showing off the Android tablet that’s part of its post-mobile phones strategy here at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. It’s only available in China right now but the company tells TechCrunch it’s “looking at European markets” to consider whether to bring the N1 here too.

Announced last November, the slender, almost 8-inch N1 is a brand licensing collaboration between Nokia and Chinese electronics manufacturing firm Foxconn. It’s not clear how the revenue share breaks down — and Nokia wouldn’t specify when we asked — but it’s definitely doing less of the heavy lifting, with Foxconn making the hardware and also handling distribution, sales and marketing. Nokia contributes design work, its brand name and Z Launcher Android launcher, also revealed last year.

Nokia’s Tuukka Järvenpää, lead product manager of brand licensing, said the Nokia N9 design team worked with Foxconn on the tablet’s design

It remains to be seen whether Nokia’s N1 tablet ends up being a China-only experiment. The version on show here in Barcelona has Google Play pre-loaded but the actual product sold in Asia comes with a Chinese app store, as is common in the market.

If it is planning to bring Nokia-branded smartphones back to the market in 2016, the well-crafted, quality feel of this ‘Designed In Finland, made in China’ tablet certainly augurs well. After the moribund Windows Phone years for Nokia, this experimental new hardware direction is finally putting a spring back in its step.

Vaasa-based AC drives manufacturer Vacon will tell you that the devices saved last year, about 62 terawatt-hours of electric energy. This corresponds to approximately one second 700-megawatt nuclear reactor in annual energy production or about 13.8 million households annual household electricity consumption in Europe. This corresponds to approximately 24 hours of the world’s electricity production.

In 2013, Vacon AC drives savings of 55 terawatt-hours of electric energy.

The inverter controls the electric motor rotation speed of the process according to the actual need, thus reducing the energy consumption of typically 20-50 per cent. Studies have shown that the frequency converters payback period is continuously reduced, for example, in pump and fan applications, the payback period can be up to less than one year. In addition, the inverter technology can also be used to modify the power of renewable energy applications.

Police and Tekes attack the people who reveal the crime attack

Evening Journal reported on today, how Tekes funding applications have been doing from Helsinki, the workers found Tekes information to reveal confidential information about a security hole due. After the settlement of the opening operation and the extent of the workers left their own application to do so and informed the Tekes.

This is, of course, at least with regard to confidentiality of criminal Tekes. Assuming that the application includes personal information, in addition to the case of a personal data file offense. The registry operator has the obligation to maintain information security.

But what makes the police? Reserves the crime reveal persons and begins to investigate the matter as serious fraud. Tekes in respect of the police has nothing to complain about.

“The existence of fraud has been met, even if you are mislead information system and causes damage,” notes lead investigating detective superintendent Jukka Pekka Risu from the news magazine of the.

Bullshit, notes blogger. Penal Code § 36 Section 1: According to the fraud condemned “the fact that one purpose mentioned in subsection inputting, altering, destroying or removing information or activities otherwise addressing the causes of data processing result of distortion and thus cause economic damages to another”

Tekes Administration talks about a data breach. It is principally requires would require either the author of the non-use of a user, or an information security breaking. In the case of application for the filling of opening detected by accident, of course, not the case no security breaking. Data burglary could be even somewhat reasonable grounds to suspect, as opposed to fraud.

Why then selected as the type of offense is aggravated fraud? Because fraud is the most severe a penalty of two years imprisonment, aggravated act of forming four. If the police had gone to investigate the matter of hacking, there would have been detained conditions to arrest anyone. This is clearly no outrageous information breakthrough.

Hole discovered by persons acting in my opinion did wrong when when downloading large amounts of information about the service.

Moral of the story is: do not tell vulnerabilities to the system administrator. The police did not follow the investigation of law and state authority does not intend to take responsibility for his crime. The key is to scroll through the blame to somebody else all costs – in this case to people who law dutifully notified of the issue.
