Emergency over coronavirus

I am living in the middle of the emergency over coronavirus in Finland. Due this reason the update cycle to make posting to this blog could be slowed down.

The Finnish government announced on Monday nationwide school closures in order to help prevent the spread of coronavirus. Read more on the following aricles:

Daycare centres are to stay open but parents were asked to keep their kids home if possible. The government also published a 19-point list of emergency legislation that takes effect on 18 March.

    THL:n kurjistaminen on kansallinen ongelma
    https://www.mattiylonen.fi/?p=248

Terveyden ja hyvinvoinnin laitos THL on saanut viime kuukausina osakseen kritiikkiä, jonka faktapohja on ollut usein heikkoa. Toisaalta on myös tuotu esiin otsikoita THL:n viime vuosien useista yt-neuvotteluista. Laitoksen toimintakertomukset ja tilinpäätökset kertovat karua tarinaa 2010-luvun näivettymisen kierteestä.

”THL:stä puuttuu tätä nykyä asiantuntemusta – erityisesti sellaista profiiliosaamista, josta olisi ollut suuresti apua esimerkiksi koronaviruksen kaltaisen uuden taudin torjumisessa,”

How has the coronavirus affected GHG emissions? One estimate found that China’s emissions dropped by 25 percent over a four-week period.

The Coronavirus Outbreak Is Curbing China’s CO2 Emissions
    https://spectrum.ieee.org/energywise/energy/environment/coronavirus-outbreak-curbing-china-co2-emissions

The coronavirus outbreak has sent the global economy reeling as businesses shutter and billions of people hunker down. Air travel, vehicle traffic, and industrial production have swiftly declined in recent weeks, with much of the world frozen in place until the virus—which has killed more than 39,000 people globally—can be safely contained. One consequence of the crisis may be a sizable, if temporary, decline in heat-trapping emissions this year.

Global carbon dioxide emissions could fall by 0.3 percent to 1.2 percent in 2020, says Glen Peters, research director of the Center for International Climate Research in Norway. He based his estimates on new projections for slower economic growth in 2020. In Europe, CO2 emissions from large sources could plunge by more than 24 percent this year.

Päivä 91: WHO: Ihmiskunnan pahin kriisi sitten toisen maailmansodan
    https://www.iltalehti.fi/koronavirus/a/31df7c3c-e33d-4b8a-b8bb-f0aa2463e2e6

Koronaviruspandemia on tappanut jo 40 000 ihmistä, joista puolet Italiassa ja Espanjassa.

Tartunnan saaneita on maailmanlaajuisesti jo 840 000, ja määrä nousee päivä päivältä.

Maailmanterveysjärjestön WHO:n mukaan koronavirus on ihmiskunnan pahin kriisi sitten toisen maailmansodan.

    USA:ssa yli 4 000 kuollut

Valkoisen talon arvion mukaan koronavirus voi viedä jopa 240 000 amerikkalaisen hengen.

Tähän mennessä Yhdysvalloissa on todettu lähes 190 000 koronavirustapausta.

Ilmeisesti varmistettu, että luonnollinen virus. Mutta ei ole löydetty selaisenaan luonnosta.

    Kaksi skenaariota:

    1. Alkulähde: Lepakko. Sellaisenaan epidemian aiheuttaja
    2. Alkulähde: muurahaiskävystä ja ihmisessä kehittynyt tarttuvaksi taudiksi (Että tarttuu ihmisestä ihmiseen)

Pikaiseen luin linkatun artikkelin, joten saatoin ymmärtää väärin.

Abstract: Case fatality rates (CFR) have been critical in the emergence and management of the current COVID-19 crisis. This article presents a comparative map of CFR for the coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2) and influenza (H1N1 and H2N2). The mapped data shows that current CFR of SARS-CoV-2 are considerably lower than, or similar to those, of hospitalized patients in the UK, Spain, Germany, or international samples. We therefore infer a possible risk that the virulence of the coronavirus is considerably overestimated due to sampling biases

We are at a critical moment in the history of politics and markets. Everyday the U.S. government stares into the fiscal and monetary abyss and chucks trillions in hoping that will be enough to finally fill it.

We stand by hoping that it will work to reflate markets collapsing from a catastrophic mispricing of assets. At least some of us do. I don’t.

Bill Gates calls for nationwide shutdown: ‘Shutdown anywhere means shutdown everywhere’
    https://thehill.com/policy/technology/490523-bill-gates-calls-for-nationwide-shutdown-shutdown-anywhere-means-shutdown

Microsoft founder and billionaire philanthropist Bill Gates called for a nationwide shutdown on Tuesday, arguing it would be the most effective way to combat the spread of the coronavirus.

Gates wrote in a Washington Post op-ed that he has spoken with experts through his work with his charity who said a national policy would be more effective over having a hodgepodge of states issue stay-at-home orders while others remain more open. He argued that the country needs a “consistent nationwide approach to shutting down.”

Itse tehty suojain ei estä saamasta koronatartuntaa, mutta se voi ainakin jonkin verran ehkäistä tartunnan leviämistä.

Coronavirus: News media sounded the alarm for months – but few listenened
    http://theconversation.com/coronavirus-news-media-sounded-the-alarm-for-months-but-few-listened-132224

Since the COVID-19 outbreak began in Wuhan, China, journalists at the biggest U.S. news organizations have diligently reported on the many dangers posed by its rapid spread.

Yet even as entire states – like California and New York – shut down, many Americans still don’t believe that the coronavirus is as big a deal as the news media has made it out to be. A poll conducted in mid-March found that only 56% of Americans consider the coronavirus a “real threat,” and that 38% believe that it has been “blown out of proportion.”
